I haven’t had a chance to do a formal wrap-up and review of 2013 so here it is, a teensy bit late (but at least there are fun pics to go along with it):
It’s been a crazy up-and-down journey over this past year. This was my first full year in San Francisco after moving here in January amid one of the largest housing booms in the past few years.
It’s been a bit random - dying my hair red, getting invited to the Google Glass first round after saying that I’d stalk my stalkers, heading to a tampon launch party, becoming a member of the Disney Family Museum and decorating my new Macbook Air with some Cylon decals from Kate.
I think it’s been interesting to dive into the tech scene, witnessing first-hand what it’s like to be at a startup featured on Techcrunch. Also got to jump into the fashion world again with a startup that helped men find fashionable choices in the mail. It’s also been a fine and fierce time to see what it’s like to work on the other side of the film world, helping to promote a lovely film, “No Place On Earth" as their social media person du jour. And in general, it was an interesting time to learn about success and failure in this new tech-driven world.
I was also lucky enough to join the Board of Directors for the Producer’s Guild NorthWest as their Diversity/Women’s chair. I also was featured as a New Media Producer in the Guild itself - pretty nifty to get recognized by my peers.
On the glamorous side, I’ve visited with some great new media folk, attending the IAWTV awards for the first time (and accepting something for Composer Rob Gokee) for Cost of Capital and again a bit later in New York at the very very glamorous Indie Soap Awards.
And on the pure nerd side, I managed to go to quite a few anime and comic book conventions this year - including Comic Con (where my lovely team managed to snag a Best Performance Award at Masquerade - and then we got shout-outs from comic book heroes Lauren Faust, Gail Simone and Phil Jimenez).
It was also a good time to reflect, take care of my health and have my heart broken and then healed a bit. Was privy to some wonderful new humans joining this world and also a passing or two. Deeply thankful for the new and old friends of mine who have watched me and supported me through some pretty tough times this year.
But mostly, it’s been nice to take a bit of a break from the craziness of 2012 and to start working on quietly developing a few new ideas with some talented folk. 2014 will be a really lovely year to figure out which projects to push forward and perhaps, where to live and learn next :)
